Switzerland is home to a great number of international and boarding schools. From this landscape, we continuously verify safety, teaching quality, and local reputation, then recommend the school that fits each family. Having raised two sons here and sent her own children to camps and local schools many times, the founder's recommendations come from lived experience, not a brochure.

大阪外国語大学英語科を卒業後、ブルネイ日本大使館に勤務。APEC会議では日本の外務大臣の伴侶リエゾンを担当。その後ジュネーブ日本領事館勤務、ASEAN会合ではブルネイ外務大臣リエゾンも務めた。

After graduating from Osaka University of Foreign Studies, Asako joined the Japanese Embassy in Brunei, serving as liaison during APEC. She later worked at the Japanese Consulate-General in Geneva and at an ASEAN summit.

その後ヨーロッパに渡航。建築家・坂茂のパリ事務所にて勤務。

She then moved to Europe, joining the Paris office of architect Shigeru Ban.

現在はジュネーブ近郊在住。栄養士としてコンサルティングを行うかたわら、循環器内科医である夫のクリニック運営を担当。二人の息子をスイスで育てている。

Today she lives near Geneva, working as a nutritionist while managing her husband's cardiology clinic, and has raised two sons in Switzerland.

04 — 留学準備Preparation

スイス留学準備　3つのパターン

Three paths to studying in Switzerland

①

短期留学（サマーキャンプなど）を準備する場合〜小学生から〜

サマーキャンプのような短期留学は、「まず海外を体験してみる」ための第一歩として最適です。長期留学のような厳密な語学力は求められないため、小学生からでも気軽に挑戦できます。

準備のポイント

英語に対する苦手意識をつくらないことを最優先に。完璧な英語力は不要です
日常会話レベルの英語（あいさつ、自分の名前や好きなことを伝えるなど）に慣れておくと、現地でより楽しめます
「一人で数日過ごす」経験（お泊まり会など）を通じて、親元を離れることへの心の準備をしておくと安心です

私どもがお手伝いできること初めての海外・初めての親元離れでも安心して送り出せるよう、キャンプ選びから渡航手続き、現地でのサポート体制までご案内いたします。

長期留学を準備する場合〜小学生のうちから〜

中学・高校からの長期留学（インターナショナルスクールへの進学）を見据える場合、小学校高学年からの準備が理想的です。IGCSEやIBといった課程に無理なく入っていくための土台作りができます。

準備のポイント

文法学習より先に、英語の絵本・動画・オンライン英会話などで「英語に親しむ」時間をたっぷり確保する
「なぜそう思うの?」と問いかける会話習慣で、自分の意見を言葉にする力を育てる
英検やCambridge Englishの子供向け試験（Starters、Moversなど）で、無理のない範囲で英語力を確認しながら進める
家族で「いつ・どの学校を目指すか」を早めに話し合い、逆算したスケジュールを立てる

高校入学を目指す場合〜中学生のうちから〜

A-LevelやIBといった大学進学に直結する課程への入学を目指す場合、中2〜中3からの計画的な準備が鍵になります。

準備のポイント

リーディング・ライティングに加え、ディスカッションやプレゼンテーションなど「発言する英語力」を意識的に鍛える
中3〜高1のタイミングで一度IELTSを受験し、必要スコアとの差を把握しておく（TOEFLよりIELTSが主流）
A-Levelは3〜4科目に絞る制度のため、得意分野・興味のある分野を早めに意識しておく
出願は中3の夏〜秋に動き出すことが多いため、中2のうちから情報収集を開始しておくと安心

Preparing for a short-term stay (summer camp etc.)From primary school age

A summer camp or short stay is the ideal first step — a chance to simply experience life abroad. Unlike long-term study, strict language proficiency is not required, making it accessible even for younger children.

Key preparation tips

The priority is building a positive relationship with English — not achieving fluency. Perfect English is not needed.
Getting comfortable with basic conversational English (greetings, sharing their name and interests) will help your child enjoy their time much more.
Practising short stays away from home (sleepovers etc.) helps children prepare emotionally for being away from family.

Preparing for long-term studyFrom upper primary school

For families considering an international boarding school from middle or high school age, starting preparation in upper primary is ideal. This gives time to build the foundation needed to enter IGCSE or IB programmes with confidence.

Key preparation tips

Before focusing on grammar, prioritise plenty of time simply enjoying English — picture books, videos, online conversation classes.
Build the habit of expressing opinions by asking "Why do you think that?" in everyday conversation.
Use age-appropriate English tests (Cambridge Starters, Movers etc.) to track progress without pressure.
As a family, discuss early which school you are aiming for and by when — then work backwards to build a realistic plan.

Aiming for senior school entryFrom middle school

For entry into A-Level or IB programmes that lead directly to university, planned preparation from around age 13–14 is essential.

Key preparation tips

Beyond reading and writing, actively develop the ability to speak up — through discussion, debate, and presentation practice.
Take an IELTS practice test around ages 14–15 to understand the gap to target scores. IELTS is more widely used than TOEFL for Swiss schools.
A-Level focuses on just three to four subjects, so begin identifying your child's strengths and interests early.
Applications often begin in summer or autumn of the final middle-school year — start gathering information a year before to avoid rushing.
